Today is International Nurses Day! A day to recognise and celebrate the outstanding commitment nurses make towards our Fresh Hope Care communities each and every day.
International Nurses Day is celebrated on 12th May every year, which is also the anniversary of the birth of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale. In 2021, the theme for International Nurses Day is ‘Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A vision for future healthcare’. It is the year to look back and reflect on the impact of COVID-19 on the health system and the nursing profession and how this will affect the future of healthcare.
With COVID-19, restrictions and border closures, this past year has been challenging for our teams and our communities. However, despite these circumstances, I have been very impressed by the care, dedication and support shown to residents, families and each other. I’ve witnessed so much innovation, creativity, strength and teamwork. It is a privilege to work with you. Thank you all for everything you do, every day.
We reached out and asked a few Fresh Hope Care staff members what they love nursing:
“Sometimes I inspire my residents; most often they inspire me. As an Aged Care Nurse I get the opportunity to be part of someone’s life and contribute little things every day to promote their quality of life, when they smile back and they are happy I feel at ease.”
“I like to make people physically and emotionally comfortable. I like to make people smile when they weren’t expecting to.”
Christine, Alexander Campbell House
“I love what I do, I’m a caring, compassionate person and I love helping others.”
Nicole, Green Hills
“I love that my job is to help others.”
“I love making a resident’s day and putting a smile on their face.”
Emma, The Glen
“I love seeing our residents happy.”
Janita, The Glen
“To be given an opportunity to be a part of someone’s life even for a short period of time only. The opportunity to know the patients/residents life history that often amazed me.”
Is there a Fresh Hope Care nurse who you would love to give a shout out to? Tag them below with a comment to let everyone know how amazing they are.
